Grand Strand Health Hosts Cholesterol & Your Heart Seminar
Myrtle Beach, SC — Did you know that about one in every six adults has high cholesterol according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention? February is American Heart Month, which makes it the ideal time to remind you to focus on your heart and encourage your family, friends and community to get involved in living healthy.
High cholesterol can lead to serious health complications including coronary heart disease, heart attack and stroke. “Many feel that the number of people affected by high cholesterol is underestimated. It’s anywhere between 100 to 102 million Americans who are diagnosed with this condition,” said Cardiologist Anil Purohit, MD, with Grand Strand Heart and Vascular Care. “Unfortunately about 40 percent of the population are underdiagnosed and undertreated with prescribed medications.”
To help our communities understand more about cholesterol, Grand Strand Health is hosting a seminar on Thursday, February 16 from 6:00 – 7:00pm at HealthFinders. Dr. Purohit will discuss why knowing your cholesterol levels is important, what the numbers mean and how they affect your heart.
To register for this free seminar, visit our calendar page or call (843) 692-4444. Registration is requested, but not required.
HealthFinders is Grand Strand Health’s community resource center, located inside Coastal Grand Mall near Dillard’s. HealthFinders offers low cost, walk-in cholesterol and A1C screenings Monday through Friday from 10:00am – 7:00pm and Saturday from 10:00am – 6:00pm.
