Myrtle Beach — Grand Strand Health opened a new Behavioral Health Unit on January 19, 2018. The 20-bed adult inpatient unit allows patients with psychiatric needs to undergo treatment in a safe, therapeutic environment with 24/7 access to psychiatric and medical professionals.

This project has been in the works since August 2014 when Grand Strand Health submitted a CON application to the South Carolina Department of Health and Environmental Control. "The Grand Strand is an underserved community for mental health and each year there is a significant increase in the number of behavioral health patients presenting in the ER," states Behavioral Health Medical Director Christina Lynn, MD. "In 2017 alone, we saw almost 4,000 patients in the ER with psychiatric illnesses."

The unit encompasses a team of caring behavioral health specialists, led by experienced psychiatrists. The overall goal of our treatment programs is to assist patients with crisis intervention and stabilization within a supportive setting. Our treatment methods include medication management, individual group and family therapies, classes in coping skills and a wide range of therapeutic activities.

The Behavioral Health Unit is located at South Strand Medical Center - 5050 Hwy 17 Bypass, Myrtle Beach, SC 29588.
