Grand Strand Medical Center to host Crush the Crisis
In partnership with the Myrtle Beach Police Department, Grand Strand Medical Center will host Crush the Crisis prescription drug take back event from 10 am to noon on Saturday, October 26.
Last year – for the first time since 2018 – there was a decrease in national drug overdose deaths in the United States according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. However, prescription drug misuse remains a public health crisis in the United States.
“We feel it is crucial to bring awareness to the dangers of drug misuse and abuse as the nationwide drug overdose epidemic continues,” said Dr. George Helmrich, Chief Medical Officer of Grand Strand Health. “As a part of our commitment to the community, we are proud to support and help educate the community on the proper disposal of medications.”
All medications will be accepted; however, needles, syringes, and lancets will not be accepted. Ointments, lotions, drops, liquid medication in leak-proof containers, vape cartridges without batteries, and pet medication will also be accepted.
“Crush the Crisis” will take place from 10 am to 12 noon at Grand Strand Health’s Medical Office Building at 920 Doug White Drive, Myrtle Beach, SC 29572.
