As more information is being revealed about coronavirus (COVID-19), expectant mothers, understandably, may have growing concerns about their pregnancy. Learn some helpful steps you can take during and after pregnancy to help protect you and your baby during this time. Pregnancy and postpartum tips during coronavirus (COVID-19):
Practice social distancing.
- Keep at least 6 feet of separation from others.
- Ask your healthcare provider for virtual or off-hour appointments for prenatal visits.
Contact your hospital or birth center.
- Ask about any restrictions on the number of people allowed in the delivery room.
- If you have or may have COVID-19:
- During labor, contact your hospital before arrival so they can prepare and protect the health of your baby and others.
- After labor, your healthcare provider may suggest a separate room for your newborn until the risk of spreading the infection is over.
- When in the same room as your baby, reduce chances of infection by thoroughly washing your hands and wearing a facemask before every feeding.
Take care of yourself.
- Reduce anxiety by taking periodic breaks from all media.
- Stay in touch: Talk to people you trust about your feelings and concerns.
- Take care of your body: Meditate, exercise regularly, eat healthy, drink plenty of water and get plenty of sleep.
- Make time to unwind: Enjoy a new or favorite activity.
