Grand Strand Health encompasses a 403-bed acute care hospital, Grand Strand Medical Center (GSMC), along with three freestanding emergency room facilities and a range of outpatient medical services, including behavioral health, advanced wound care, imaging, and laboratory services. The health system also includes six CareNow Urgent Care centers and numerous affiliated physician practices offering comprehensive care in specialties such as heart and vascular care, spine and neurological care, general and specialized surgical care, orthopedics, plastic and reconstructive surgery, bariatrics, and primary care.
Grand Strand Medical Center excels in emergency and trauma care, cardiology, cardiothoracic surgery, neurosurgery, neurology, and robotic surgery. It is the only provider of cardiac surgery, neurosurgery, and pediatric intensive care (PICU) in Horry and Georgetown counties. The hospital houses South Carolina’s busiest trauma center, designated as a Level I Adult Trauma Center and Level II Pediatric Trauma Center by the American College of Surgeons. It is also the region’s only Comprehensive Stroke Center, certified by DNV-GL.
The hospital has earned recognition from The Joint Commission for excellence in programs such as chest pain, knee and hip replacement, sepsis, and stroke rehabilitation. For three consecutive years (2022–2024), Grand Strand Medical Center has been named one of America’s 250 Best Hospitals by Healthgrades. Additionally, in 2024, the hospital received the Healthgrades Patient Safety Excellence Award.
